The Kenya Metrological Department says Most parts of the country will remain sunny and dry this week.
The forecast covering the period between February 13 and February 19 however shows that a few areas are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall.
The areas include South Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley.
The weatherman warns that temperatures during the forecast period will also be extremely high in some areas especially the Coast and North Eastern.
“High average daytime (maximum) temperatures of more than 30 degrees Celsius will be experienced over the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya,” the forecast says.
Some parts of the South-eastern lowlands and the Highlands West of the Rift Valley are also expected to record high temperatures.
“A few areas in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley will experience low average night-time (minimum) temperatures of less than 10 degrees Celsius,” it says.
According to the forecast, counties at the Coast which include Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale will record sunny days and partly cloudy nights.
Temperatures are expected to be as high as 37 degrees Celsius in Mombasa during the day, 35 degrees Celsius in Msabaha and 34 and 33 degrees Celsius in Mtwapa and Malindi respectively.
The Southeastern lowlands counties of Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita Taveta will record sunny days and partly cloudy nights with temperatures expected to be 30 degrees Celsius in Kitui during the day.
The North Eastern counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo will also record extremely high temperatures during the forecast period, with Garissa and Mandera recording 38 degrees Celsius during the day.
These counties are predicted to have sunny days and partly cloudy nights.
The counties in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu and Tharak Nithi will record sunny intervals in the morning.
“Light to moderate afternoon showers are likely to occur over a few places. Nights are expected to be partly cloudy,” the forecast says.
Nairobians will experience temperatures of 29 degrees Celsius during the day and 14 degrees Celsius at night.
According to the forecast, Turkana and Samburu counties will record sunny days and partly cloudy nights with temperatures expected to be as high as 39 degrees Celsius during the day before dropping to 25 degrees at night.
The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria basin and the Rift Valley will have light rains in the morning over a few places.
Moderate afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms are expected over a few places.
