The Principal Secretary for Interior and Coordination of the National Government Raymond Omollo jas praised the national government affordable housing program terming it a major milestone in the country’s development agenda and an economic stimulation program.

Speaking after inspecting the Bahati affordable housing project in Nakuru county, PS Omollo noted that the housing project, besides delivering dignified housing to Kenyans, the project has also played a key part in job creation thus making immense contribution to the economic growth of the nation.

“The Bahati affordable housing project is a major milestone in the government’s commitment to delivering dignified, inclusive and affordable housing under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). This landmark development comprises a total of 220 housing units distributed across nine blocks, with a strategic mix designed to cater to diverse household needs,” Omollo said.

The Nakuru Bahati affordable housing project consists of nine blocks, six of which are two-bedroom units, offering a total of 120 units while the remaining three blocks consist of 60 studio apartments, 20 one-bedroom units and 20 three-bedroom units.

This units, Omollo noted are key to ensuring a broad spectrum of affordability and functionality, from young professionals and small families to larger households. The development spans four floors per block and integrates modern urban planning principles.

Now at the final stages of implementation, the project is undergoing completion works including painting, tiling, landscaping and other civil finishes.

“Since construction commenced in September 2023, the site has consistently engaged over 250 workers, providing critical employment opportunities to local artisans, suppliers and service providers. This has directly contributed to economic activity in the region and fostered skills transfer, core tenets of BETA’s labour-intensive, community-driven development approach,” The PS emphasised.

“Moreover, the commencement of Phase II of the Bahati project demonstrates the sustained demand for affordable housing in Nakuru and the government’s unwavering resolve to address the national housing gap,” he added.

This expansion in the nationwide housing program signals further economic stimulation and job creation as the programme scales up.
