The Nairobi City County Government has moved to close down the popular night club  Habanos Lounge on Kiambu Road, this following numerous complaints from residents around the residential area over noise pollution.
The Nairobi City County Government, through the Department of Environment, took the decision to close the establishment indefinitely on Monday, 26th, contrary to the position released by the club that the establishment had been ‘temporarily closed for maintenance’.
The closure,  accordingly, the County authorities have emphasised that will remain in effect until the lounge implements proper soundproofing measures. The operation was in conjunction with Nema ,county liquor licensing board and National Police Service .
The Nairobi City County Government Chief Officer for  Environment Geoffrey Mosiria said that the County Government will continue with implementation of the rule of law and  the clampdown on establishments causing noise pollution will be upheld.
“Our objective is not to shut down businesses, but rather to ensure that all establishments operate in an environmentally friendly and compliant manner, particularly in regard to noise pollution regulations,” Mosiria said.
According to Mosiria, the management of Habanos Lounge  was properly advised by county environment experts on the specific steps required to soundproof the premises and once these measures are fully implemented and verified, the business will be allowed to reopen.
“We will continue to work closely with the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and other relevant agencies to enforce compliance. A number of other establishments are currently under review, and those that fail to act on the notices we have issued—requesting soundproofing or relocation from residential zones—will face similar action,” the Chief Officer noted.
Mosiria added that the County government remains committed to safeguarding the health and peace of Nairobi residents while supporting a responsible business environment.
