1.3 million Grade 6 students on Monday, October 28, begun their Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) as part of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).

The exams will test the learners’ comprehension of six subjects – Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, Science, Social Studies and Creative Arts.

The students will begin with Mathematics and English papers on Monday, Integrated Science and Kiswahili on Tuesday before concluding with Creative Arts and Social Studies on Wednesday.

KPSEA, which began in 2022, aims to facilitate the students’ transition to Junior Secondary School.

According to the government, KPSEA offers a more relaxed exam environment with a keen focus on Competency-based assessment.

In marking the official onset of the exams in Westlands, Nairobi, Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Julius Migos emphasised that the Ministry has placed adequate measures to ensure that all national examinations run smoothly.

The CS explained that regions such as Tana River that experienced security challenges would conduct their exams inside police stations to guarantee their safety.

He confirmed that no candidate would be barred from sitting the national examinations.
