The Nairobi City County Executive Committee member for Inclusivity, Public Participation and Customer Service Sector Rosemary Kariuki has welcomes Africa and the rest of the world to Nairobi ahead of the upcoming 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) set to be held in Nairobi in February 2025.

Kariuki has called on football fans from across the continent to come enjoy great football action in Nairobi while at the same time enjoying the great amenities Nairobi has to offer.

Kariuki noted that Nairobi is ready to host visitors to the city under the sun in the month of love and football reminding the world of football that in a fast moving world, Nairobi is among the best city destinations in the world with top class hospitality ready to host the African footballing extravaganza.

The inclusivity docket in the Nairobi City County government under Rosemary Kariuki is the mother department that encompasses City culture, Arts and Tourism sub sector functions.

The sub sector is tasked with among others, work on tourism in the city. These includes forstering local participation in tourism and the management of tourism activities, development and implementation of county tourism development plans, programmes and projects,  the collection and compilation of tourism information and data in the county and Marketing of county tourism in collaboration with the Kenya tourism board.

Under the sub sector, Nairobi county seeks to work in the coordination and maintenance of tourism products and facilities standards and quality management in liaison with industry stakeholders.

Nairobi is the only city in the world with a National Game Park, at the Nairobi National Park where, after football, fans and teams can take time to visit the game park well within the city and get a chance to see the wonders of the wild.

Nairobi boasts of world class hotels and restaurants ready to serve the continent. Kariuki noted that while in Nairobi, guests can take time to visit the Kenya Nation Museums and the Kenya National Archives to learn history of the country well within the city at convenience.

Nairobi also hosts that United Nations Habitat and United Nations Environmental Program UNEP  offering guests an opportunity to engage with the rest of the world.

At the same time, Nairobi boasts of a city culture second to none in the world with a population friendly to visitors.

Nairobi night life is one of a kind and Kariuki has called on visitors to come sample the city entertainment joints, after football, and savour the food, drinks and culture.

“ Nairobi is more than ready to welcome Africa and the rest of the world to this historic tournament. As a county government, under the leadership of Governor Johnson Sakaja, we are committed to providing an environment that allows businesses, particularly in the hospitality industry, to thrive. Hotels in Nairobi are prepared to receive guests and offer a world-class experience,” she said.

“Governor Sakaja’s clarion call, “Lazima I Work,” keeps all of us on our toes, ensuring that we deliver for Nairobians across all sectors. This includes improving infrastructure, enhancing security, and preparing sports facilities to showcase Nairobi’s capabilities. For example, Dandora Stadium can serve as a training facility for teams, officials, and other organized groups who will be participating in CHAN. The hospitality sector is on high alert, even as continue to collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure seamless transport, exceptional accommodation, and vibrant entertainment options for everyone. Nairobi isn’t just a host city—it’s a destination that leaves a lasting impression. Kariuki noted that there’s so much to look forward to in Nairobi. Kariuki assured all visitors coming to Nairobi for CHAN that the City Governor H.E Johnson Sakaja was ready to welcome Africa and world to the city and the whole county government was excited to have the county host Africa to the city.

Makadara MP Aspirant Edwin Kuria launches Nairobi Mega Pool tournament Makadara Constituency incoming Member of Parliament Edwin Kuria has today, Saturday 9 May, 2026, launched Nairobi’s mega Pool Table Tournament, slated for May 24th, 2026 with a promise to deliver an ecentric pool table tournament where a lucky, talented youth will win a brand new Motor Cycle. Speaking today in Viwandani Ward of Makadara Sub County, Kuria activated the youth to brace themselves for an electrifying competition in the tournament meant to empower the youth. Kuria noted that the ground has changed, and so have the people, making a shift upon which, today’s generation is no longer waiting on promises but they are stepping forward to claim opportunity through action, talent, and unity. “Leadership today must create platforms that empower, engage, and uplift the community in real and visible ways,” Kuria said. The tournament will be held at STAR OF HOPE, starting from 10:00 AM, bringing together players and fans for a day of skill, connection, and opportunity. Participants will compete for exciting rewards, with the GRAND PRIZE BEING A MOTORBIKE, alongside other cash prizes of KSH 40,000, KSH 20,000, and KSH 10,000. This mega tournament will be played across five zones where the winner in every zone will pocket Ksh. 5000 and a chance to move into the next stage for an opportunity to win a Motor Cycle. The runners up in every zone will walk away with a Ksh. 3000 while number three wins Ksh. 2000. In that spirit, Kuria has taken it upon himself to bring the community together through the VIWANDANI POOL TOURNAMENT, set for 24TH MAY 2026. Kiria intones that this is not just competition, it is a statement of inclusion, youth empowerment, and practical engagement at the grassroots level. Kuria encouraged all interested participants to register with thekir local cordinators and be part of this transformative experience. “This is what meaningful leadership looks like—creating real opportunities where talent is recognized and rewarded. It is about moving beyond words and ensuring that progress can be seen and felt within the community,” Kuria said. Kuria, who is running for the position of Makadara Membernof Parliament has been active in empowering the residents of Makadara constituency using sports as a way of empowerment.
