The tragic death of a university student at a popular night club, MassHouse, a high-end nightclub along Ngong Road, has thrown  the establishment into the limelight, all for the bad reasons.

The tragic death which happened on February 15, 2025 has sparked widespread speculation, with allegations ranging from security lapses to excessive force by bouncers.

However, beyond this tragedy, MassHouse has long been a subject of controversy, with claims of illicit activities and powerful political connections shielding it from scrutiny.

At the center of it all is Miriam Saina, the wealthy and influential owner of the establishment.

Saina is regarded as one of Kenya’s most financially successful women, with business interests that reportedly extend beyond the hospitality sector. Sources claim she is married to a well-connected Coast-based individual linked to Abu Joho, the brother of Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho.

Unlike conventional nightclubs where alcohol is the main attraction, MassHouse is rumored to be a hotspot for the sale and consumption of high-end narcotics

Patrons, primarily from Nairobi’s elite circles, reportedly have access to substances such as fentanyl, oxycodone, amphetamines, benzodiazepines, and cocaine.

Reports suggest that these illicit activities occur with the knowledge and possible protection of law enforcement officers, raising concerns about institutional complicity.

Frequent clubgoers have also raised alarms over growing insecurity within the establishment.

Many claim that cases of stolen personal belongings are common, yet management remains unresponsive. Others have pointed to a pattern of bouncers using excessive force, with past incidents of physical altercations that have gone unpunished.

The death of the university student has only intensified calls for investigations into the club’s operations.

Despite mounting allegations, MassHouse has continued to operate, seemingly unfazed by public outcry. Law enforcement agencies have yet to take decisive action, fueling speculation that powerful figures are shielding the business from scrutiny.

Critics argue that Saina’s wealth and political ties have rendered her virtually untouchable, allowing her to maintain a nightclub that operates outside the law.

As investigations into the recent death unfold, pressure is mounting on authorities to take action.

The public now awaits answers on whether law enforcement will address the allegations surrounding MassHouse or if, as many believe, Saina will once again evade accountability due to her deep-rooted connections.
