The attack on former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua was an inside job aimed at whipping up emotions.
Embakasi North Member of Parliament James Gakuya, a close ally of the former deputy president, revelations have come out, that he organized the goons who attacked Gachagua in a bid to attract sympathy.
According to credible sources, the marauding goons, who attacked a church service at PCEA Kasarani where Gachagua attended the Sunday service and a construction fundraising event was an inside job organized by Gakuya and two other Nairobi Members of Parliament allied to Gachagua.
Gachagua , while speaking at Mwiki PCEA Church in Kasarani on Sunday, April 6, 2025, he claimed the state, through Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja, sent goons to attack them during service completing the well orchestrated plot to plan an attack and later blame Sakaja in a bid to whip emotion and seek sympathy, just a day after President William Ruto made a successful week long tour of the Mount Kenya region.
Gakuya is accused of organising the goons to disrupt the church service moments before it  ends where the security attached to former DP Gachagua were forced to fire into the air to control the situation.
According to sources, Gakuya and two other MPs planned how a small number of goons would invade the church service and later blame it on Sakaja and the government.
The youths were heard demanding for their payment after invading the church service. ” Tunataka pesa. Wapi pesa yetu? (We want money. Where is our payment?) we must get paid,” the youths shouted.
Gakuya is said to have mobilized the youths and by the time they came into the church, several of their leaders had vanished a move that angered the goons who went on to demand for their payment from the Embakasi North MP.
In what is a blantant case of sponsored violence to seek she, Gachagua has issued a scathing response after a church service he was attending in Mwiki was subjected to chaos.
Speaking after the service, Gachagua expressed confusion over the incident, questioning its timing and the motives behind the disruption.
“I don’t understand why thugs were sent to attack us during a church service. I won’t say much for now because I have an interview tomorrow, and I have a lot to say. Unfortunately, there are deliberate efforts to restrict our freedom to move around the country and associate with like-minded individuals,” Gachagua said.
“I didn’t mind Ruto sending goons after me—but in church? Honestly? What has become of you, Mr President?” he posed.
The former Deputy President also criticised the President for allegedly using Governor Sakaja to cause the disturbance.
“You no longer seem to care that, through Governor Sakaja, you are sending thugs to disrupt a church service. That’s fine—you can carry on. We are aware that the Deputy Inspector General instructed the police not to attend,” Gachagua claimed.
He warned that the actions would have lasting repercussions on the relationship between the government and the PCEA Church.
