The inaugural Abbas Khalif Football Tournament in Langata has dedicated in honor of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, honouring his lifelong push for socio-economic justice and his strong support for Sports in the country.
Abbas, South C MCA and Langata MP aspirant was a close ally of the Raila Odinga family and had initially planned for the unique tournament, arguably the best in the area and a first of its kind in Nairobi and in Kenya as a whole.
In the mega tournament, Football teams in Langata constituency stand to win big in the Football Tournament kicked off on November 10, 2025 before taking a break to mourn Raila with the finals slated to be played on December 12, 2025 at Nyayo National Stadium.
The winning football team in this mega football tournament in Langata will win a brand new 33-seater Matatu minibus while the runners up will win themselves a 14-seater matatu while the third placed team will walk away with car to start up Uber business.
Abass Ibrahim Khalif who is the current Member of the County Assembly for South C ward has exhibited an unwavering support for the youth and sports development. His commitment to empowering the community through football has by far depicted true leadership and vision which transcends beyond the ward to the corridors of city hall.
The Abass Khalif Langata football tournament seeks to empower the youth of Langata through sports, nurture talent, unite the community and celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship. Every participating team will also receive KSh 50,000 in support from the Abass Foundation.
Abass has already kicked off empowerment drives in Langata and is aiming to vie for the MP seat in Langata constituency which has a history that no MP has ever served for two consecutive terms since 2013.
On the same note, Lang’ata is slowly shaping up into one of the hottest battlegrounds of 2027. Different forces are making moves, but one figure who cannot be overlooked is Abass who in 2022, showed how deep his influence can run.
Contestants in South C stepped aside, some compensated handsomely, others were hammered properly at the ballot, clearing the path for his MCA seat.
That was not luck for Abbas, it was a strategy. Inside the City Hall, he has built a reputation such that when he appears, MCAs line up. Not because of speeches but because of the respect he carries.
