Shabana forward Peter Ongechi is making waves not just on the field but also in the coaching realm. Among 30 coaches enrolled for the CAF C coaching training in Nyamira County, Ongechi’s determination to secure his future in football is evident.

Having begun his coaching journey with the CAF D class in Kisii County back in 2022, Ongechi explained his decision to pursue coaching while still an active player. “I realize that my career as a player won’t last forever. Therefore, I’m taking steps to secure my future in football,” he shared. His ambition is clear: to earn the highest possible coaching badge.

The month-long CAF C course, inaugurated by FKF CEO Barry Otieno, alongside Nyanza FKF NEC Member Joseph Andere, and FKF Nyamira County Representative Vincent Nyasani, marks a significant milestone in the federation’s efforts to groom top-tier coaches. With experienced mentors like Musa Otieno and George Ondula leading the training, the course promises to refine coaching skills and elevate the standards of football coaching in Kenya.

Ongechi’s journey is part of a broader initiative by the federation, which has already trained thousands of coaches across various CAF levels. Notable performances by coaches like Charles Okere, Jackline Juma, Beldine Odemba, Bernard Kawinzi, and Stephen Ocholla underscore the dedication and talent within Kenya’s coaching community.

While some coaches faced initial challenges, the federation’s supportive approach, including a six-month grace period for improvement, demonstrates a commitment to nurturing talent and maintaining high coaching standards.

As Ongechi and his fellow coaches continue their training, the future of Kenyan football looks brighter, with a new generation of skilled and passionate coaches poised to make a lasting impact on the sport.
