Akinyi Gitonga Wins Karen Ladies Ninth Medal Golf Tournament

Akinyi Gitonga emerged victorious in the Karen Country Club’s ninth Ladies Medal tournament yesterday, July 17, 2024. Carding an impressive 68 nett, Gitonga secured the top spot in Division A of the competition, which was sponsored by integrated marketing communications and events agency IMG Kenya Limited.
Akinyi was followed closely by her clubmates Koki Muia and Kellie Gachaga who finished in second and third spots with scores of 73 nett and 75 nett, respectively. Division B was dominated by Nkini Pasha, who carded an impressive 65 nett, beating Jennifer Cege who secured the runner-up position with 67 nett, while Nellie Njaga claimed third place at 70 nett.
Amara Kimari, a junior golfer, stole the show in Division C with a score of 40 stableford points, while Kellie Gachaga claimed the gross category of the category with 80 gross.
In other results, Njeri Onyango and Milcah Kamere triumphed in the Nines challenge, each scoring 35 nett on the first and second nine holes respectively.
At the same time, Jennifer Cege displayed exceptional skills on the putting green, winning the Putting Challenge with a remarkable 25 putts, while Muthoni Kioi, another junior golfer, impressed with a score of 74 nett to secure the Junior category win.
IMG Kenya Ltd Strategy Director, Richard Bailey who spoke during the event said, “The level of talent showcased today was truly inspiring. We are proud to support these ladies and their passion for the game. This tournament is a great platform to nurture upcoming golfers, and we were particularly impressed by the performances of the junior players. We look forward to witnessing their continued growth in the sport.
