A leading betting firm in Kenya has offered to be the official fans partner of Kenya’s national football team Harambee Stars ahead of the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Zimbabwe in Uganda scheduled for September 6th, 2024.
The firm in a partnership with the local soccer governing body, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) will offer Harambee Stars replica jerseys to 20,000 Kenyan fans that will be cheering Kenya in the qualifiers as Kenya eyes a spot in the Africa extravaganza to be hosted in Morocco next year.
The initiative by the betting firm to be unveiled by FKF will be used to encourage and motivate football fans to support Kenyans rally fans behind Harambee Stars in its quest to qualify forte 2025 African Cup of Nations to be held in Morocco.
FKF has settled on Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda as venue for hosting Kenya’s three home matches of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nation (Afcon) qualifiers after CAF failed to approve the country’s venues in hosting the continental qualifiers.
Speaking in Nairobi, the federation president Nick Mwendwa said the three home matches will be played in Kampala since no stadium in Kenya is accredited by both Fifa and the Confederation of African Football.
“We have made the painful choice of playing our three Afcon matches in Uganda,” Mwendwa said.
The 42,000-seater capacity Mandela National Stadium, which is fondly known as ‘Namboole National Stadium’ got the green light from Caf to host international matches in May.
Harambee Stars will open their campaign at home against Zimbabwe on September 6th, 2024, before visiting Namibia six days later.
The team, coached by Engin Firat, will then host Cameroon on October 15, eight days after visiting the Indomitable Lions.
