The Nairobi City County Clean City Initiative has garnered 82 percent support from Nairobi residents, a polls conducted by Intouch media and Toucan media have revealed.
The opinion polls showed that more people in the city are happy with Governor Johnson Sakaja’s initiative which has seen the county government with the support of the county’s green army carry out clean up activities in the city every day during nightfall.
The Intouch Media poll indicated that 83 percent are in support of the clean city initiative as only 11 percent are opposed with 6 percent saying they were either unsure or undecided.
Toucan media poll revealed 82 percent support the initiative while 10 percent are opposed.
Intouch polled 3600 respondents from various sub counties with a minimum of 200 people being interviewed per sub county.
Majority of those who support Sakaja’s clean city initiative according to Intouch media pollsters were women and students. Sakaja enjoys a popularity rating of 60 percent overall due to what the poll revealed were strategic programs that his administration has been rolling out in phases.
Toucan media solutions polled 2867 of Nairobi residents from different sub counties in the city.
Intouch went a head and asked if they will vote based on the how the city looks where 80 percent responded in the affirmative. Asked if they are likely to vote for Sakaja again 61 percent responded in the positive . Sakaja still enjoy large percent of his support from the youth and women according to intouch.
“Governor Sakaja seems to lead in the polls due to what many respondents identified as programs which not only change the city but also leave minimum disruption of the normal activities of locals,” the report said.
“Clean up in the city has transformed the city which is now cleaner and more businesses friendly,” reads the poll.
The polls were conducted between
January 16 and January 21, 2025.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja unveiled the night clean up exercises and has been at the fore front at leading the exercises. The county as well moved to remove hanging sign posts from walk ways and shop corridors in the central business district further making it easier for people to walk around town following the relocation of hawkers from the streets to back lanes.
