Activist Bob Njagi, one of three individuals abducted in Kitengela in August last year, has claimed that missing Wajir Member of County Assembly (MCA) Yussuf Hussein Ahmed was held in the same location as him.
Speaking on Citizen TV’s JKLive show on Wednesday, Njagi—who identifies as the leader of the Free Kenya Movement—stated that at the time of his release, the MCA, who had been missing for nearly six months was still under the hands of their abductors.
“We may laugh about this matter sometimes but I want to say here that the MCA for Wajir County was found murdered was actually in the room next to where I was… I had the opportunity of peeping through the keyhole and I saw him,” Njagi said.
In an emotional and vivid revelation, Njagi said that the MCA was brought in late at night on Friday, September 13, 2024, and locked up next to his room.
At first, the activist became suspicious since it was not the norm for the abductors to bring in abductees at night which made him curious to know who their new mate was.
He said that he peeped through an opening and saw the man, whom he later came to learn was the missing MCA after his (Njagi) release, 32 days later.
“On the night when he was brought to that place, I remember very well that it was September 13 because I was keeping dates of abductions and I noticed somebody had been brought in the middle of the night which is not normal and the room that he was taken was next to mine,” explained Njagi.
“Through my own investigations, I found out that he was of Somali origin and immediately after being released, I did my own search and realized that on the same day, Friday, September 13, there was a man that was abducted in Enterprise Road and that is the same man who was brought to where we were.”
Although investigations are still ongoing to establish the whereabouts of the MCA, with the family in agony of whether their kin is dead or alive, Njagi disclosed that when they finally left the detention centre, the MCA was still alive.
“Without fear of contradiction, I can say that when we left, he was there. Later on, I had that his body was found mutilated and dumped in Wajir,” he claimed.
The allegations by the activist come amidst orders by the High Court directing Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to disclose the whereabouts of missing Wajir Member of County Assembly Yussuf Hussein Ahmed within 14 days.
The Dela Ward MCA who went missing more than five months ago is said to have been abducted on September 13, 2024, along Enterprise Road in Nairobi’s Industrial Area.
A month after his disappearance, a body was retrieved in Lake Yahud which was believed to be the missing MCA.
Family members and locals thronged the morgue to identify the body that was badly tortured and decomposed but two independent DNA tests later determined that the body was not that of the MCA.
The development resulted in the 47 County Assemblies threatening adjournment of House sittings if their colleague was not found.
The MCAs claimed he was taken in by the State for unknown reasons. Just four days prior to his disappearance, he had complied with summons from security agencies in Wajir.
