Allegations of forgery have been levelled against Moses Mbuthia, the Chairman of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Beach Volleyball Commission, who is vying for the position of Treasurer in the upcoming National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) elections.

Mbuthia, who also serves as the KVF Deputy Treasurer, is reportedly homeless following an eviction from his former residence at the YMCA Shauri Moyo. He is accused of forging critical documents and allegedly assisting several NOC-K aspirants to falsify their documents to secure clearance from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ahead of the polls.

He is facing serious claims that his Teachers Service Commission (TSC) number is forged. It is further alleged that he has been using his downtown forgery networks to fabricate documents for other candidates who would otherwise not meet the stringent Chapter Six constitutional requirements for holding public office.

Once a renowned school games administrator, Mbuthia rose through the ranks to become the Chairman of the KVF Nairobi Branch and is now heading the Beach Volleyball Commission — allegedly on the back of forged credentials.

Following his recent eviction, Mbuthia is said to have resorted to sleeping in his car, which is usually parked within the Nyayo Stadium compound. Sources claim he changes clothes there in preparation for each day, living a lifestyle comparable to that of homeless individuals in American cities.

Concerned by his deteriorating condition, members of Mbuthia’s family have reportedly reached out to the sports fraternity, seeking assistance in obtaining mental and psychological help for him at Mathare Mental Hospital. They suspect he may be suffering from a mental disorder.

Despite the controversies surrounding him, Mbuthia is known for forging partnerships with companies that have supported volleyball activities in Nairobi. Among them are Kenchick and Savlon. However, his current partnership with Savlon is mired in controversy, reportedly causing reputational damage to the company.

Tensions have been escalating within the Kenya Volleyball Federation, with Mbuthia recently embroiled in a bitter exchange with high-ranking officials. He reportedly accused one top federation official of sexually harassing players from the national women’s team. In retaliation, the official is said to have accused Mbuthia of engaging in homosexual conduct—allegations that several insiders have allegedly corroborated.
