Afrobeats megastar David Adedeji Adeleke popularly known as Davido has is seeking legal redress against Mediamax’s K24 Digital online platform following a story on his alleged arrest at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

In a statement, dated Tuesday, April 2, the ‘Unavailable’ hitmaker expressed his displeasure at the erroneous reporting adding that he found the fabrication ‘extremely irresponsible’.

While sharing the obviously cooked-up story, K24 Digital said that it was part of their April 1 Fool’s Day editorial offering.

On Monday morning, some unsuspecting Kenyans were surprised after the media outlet stated that the Nigerian star had arrested by police on Sunday as he attempted to leave the country.

The prank detailed that Davido and his seven crew members were held at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) following a search on his private jet, where narcotic drugs were found.

It added that Davido and his crew were arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Police Unit at JKIA.

While reacting to the news on their social media platforms, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) quickly branded the report as ‘Fake News’.

Davido left Kenya on Sunday, after a night of performance at the Raha Fest, which was held in Uhuru Gardens, Nairobi on Saturday night.

Davido also said that the allegations tainted his name and his brand, insisting that he had not been arrested as alleged in the story – and that he had never been arrested by anyone in any of the hundreds of countries he had visited.

The statement said: “Fam, it has come to my attention that false reports regarding an arrest circulated online on April 1st, which has since led to a barrage of calls.”

“I want to assure my fans that these re-ports are entirely untrue. I successfully completed my scheduled shows in Uganda and Kenya and have since re-turned home to Nigeria.

“I’d also like to note that I have never been arrested by anyone in any country for any crime in the world. Not my home Nigeria, my home America, or any of the hundreds of countries I’ve made home throughout my career.”

Davido also indicated that he had already gotten in touch with his lawyer who would be judicially pursuing the matter on his behalf.

“I find the fabrication of allegations of such international crimes extremely irresponsible regardless of the light of `April Fools’, and my lawyer is seeking legal recourse against the media parties responsible for generating this misinformation,” he concluded.
