The High Court will break for a recess from August 1 to September 15, 2024.

This includes the Employment and Labour Relations Courts (ELRC) and the Environment and Land Courts (ELC).

“Pursuant to Article 165 (1) of the Constitution of Kenya and section 10 (1) (2) (a) of the High Court (Organization and Administration) Act, 2015, notice is given as follows: The August Recess of the High Court and Courts of Equal Status shall commence on August 1, 2024, and terminate on September 15, 2024, both days inclusive,” a Gazette notice reads.

In the notice, Principal Judge Eric Ogola said Recess Duty Judges will be appointed to hear and try matters.

In the High Court Stations and Divisions, the Recess Duty Judges will be appointed by the Presiding Judges at the respective Stations and Divisions.

In the Employment and Labour Court, they will also be appointed by the Principal Judge of that Court and the same will apply for the Environment and Land Court.

“In court stations with a single Judge, the matters emanating from there will be handled in the nearest High Court station where a Recess Duty Judge is sitting which shall be indicated on the Station’s Notice Board by the Presiding Judge of such single Judge Station,” Ogolla said.

He stated that during the vacation the offices of the aforesaid courts, including Registries, will be open to the public from 8 am to 5 pm on all weekdays other than the public holidays.
