President William Ruto has today, Friday 19 July, 2024 nominated 11 Cabinet Secretaries in his first batch of cabinet appointments following last week’s mass dismissal of all cabinet secretaries.

The Head of State, in a press address at State House, said the 11 nominations – including Attorney General – six from the previous cabinet – with others to follow soon said that the appointments came after consultations across the political divide in an attempt to bring back peace and sanity to the country.

Ruto mostly named holdovers from the cabinet he sacked last week to a new government meant to respond to the grievances of young protesters.

The mass firing last week was a concession to demands from youth-led protests that had already forced him to withdraw

The six fired CSs, who now make a comeback include Prof. Kithure Kindiki who has been re-appointed to his former Interior docket and Aden Duale back as Defence CS.

The President nominated five new comers who include Dr. Debra Mulonga Barasa as the new Health CS, Julius Migosi Ogamba to the Education ministry, Dr. Andrew Mwihia Karanja as the new Agriculture CS, – Eric Muriithi Muuga in the ministry of water, sanitation and irrigation and and Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u to the ministry of ICT and digital economy.

Below is the list of the 11 CSs and their designations:

  1. Ministry of the Interior and National Administration – Prof. Kithure Kindiki
  2. Ministry of Health – Dr. Debra Mulonga Barasa
  3. Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development – Alice Wahome
  4. Ministry of Education – Julius Migosi Ogamba
  5. Ministry of Defence – Aden Barre Duale
  6. Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development – Dr. Andrew Mwihia Karanja
  7. Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry – Roselinda Soipan Tuiya
  8. Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation – Eric Muriithi Muuga
  9. Ministry of Roads and Transport – Davis Chirchir
  10. Ministry of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy – Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u
  11. Attorney-General – Rebecca Miano

President Ruto said that he is continuing to undertake consultations across the political divide on the balance of Cabinet that he will be appointing shortly. He noted that the consultations are at an advanced stage and internal processes in various sectors are underway to facilitate appointment of the balance of the Cabinet.

“Additionally, I will be issuing next week a clear roadmap on the assignment that the new Cabinet is going to have, with clear timelines and deliverables to harness the tremendous potential that exists in our nation and drive our country to greatness.” President Ruto said.
