Football Kenya Federation (FKF) today, Saturday, August 24, 2024, held its Special General Meeting setting the ball rolling in preparations for the upcoming federation elections.

The Special General Meeting which was attended by some 89 delegates approved key roadmap decisions which will guide the federation in its electioneering period expected to run between October to December, with a FIFA ultimatum for the FKF elections to be concluded before the end of 2024.

Top on the agenda at the SGM was the adoption of decisions by the National Executive Committee which included the federations financial report as well as the most important activity of the day which was the adoption of the newly composed Electoral Board, as well as the 2019/2020 Electoral Code which was amended on the floor to gain a unanimous adoption from the delegates.

Members present voted to pass the Electoral Board members, comprised of Hesbon Owilla, James Waindi, Alfred Ngang’a, Dan Mule, and Marceline Sande with two standby members to the electoral boasrd Farida Lucia Juma and Robert Akumu Asembo.

The delegates voted to adopt the amended Electoral Code after Tusker FC Chairman Charles Gacheru proposed that the electoral code be amended. Key in Gacheru’s amendments was the reduction of the period which one is mandated to have been a member before qualifying to vie for various positions from three to two of the last five years.

The 89 delegates were in attendance included the representatives from the 45 FKF Branches as well as the 18 FKF Premier League,  10 FKF National Super League,  3 FKF Women Premier League,  2 FKF Women National Super League and 10 FKF Division One League.

Among those who attended the SGM were FKF President Emeritus Sam Nyamweya who praised the meeting terming it, ‘a meeting  beyond expectations’. Nyamweya reiterated calls earlier made by FKF President Nick Mwendwa on shunning regular courts in solving FKF disputes and instead make use of the internal dispute resolution mechanisms that are set in the FKF constitution.

Mwendwa called on all stakeholders to unite in developing the game of football and support the electoral process.

“I urge you to go out and campaign. Every one of us want a good election so let us not derail the process, let us support it to have a free and fair elections. To my competitors, let us sell our agenda and face off fairly with respect because football is for all of us,” Mwendwa said.
