Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen led a galaxy of leaders in their droves to support the Kenyan 21-time champions Gor Mahia as the Kenya side thrashed Al Merreikh of South Sudan 5-1 in their CAF champions league preliminary match played at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Murkomen was accompanied by Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa and former ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo, who was recently appointed the Deputy Chief of Staff, Performance and Delivery Management, to rally behind Gor Mahia in their continental duty.

The Kenyan champions Gor Mahia eased into the first round of Caf champions league with the emphatic win to progress to the next round of the Caf Champions League on a 5-2 aggregate.

Gor Mahia went down 1-0 in the first leg contest last weekend away in South Sudan.

After falling to a solitary goal loss in the first leg, Gor Mahia produced a dazzling display at Nyayo with the full support of the Kenyan fans led by Minister Murkomen and Raila shrugging off a false start that saw K’Ogalo conceding just six minutes into the contest when Nigerian-born Djiboutian striker Samuel Akinbinu strike for the visitors to silence to silence the home crowd.

K’Ogalo responded with goals from Chris Ochieng, Alpha Onyango, Alphonce Omija and a brace by Rooney Onyango.

The stadium was in electrifying atmosphere as K’Ogalo went on to silence their opponents to set up a date with Egypt’s Giants Zamalek in the first round.

Other leaders who were present during the match included the Sakaja foundation chairman Osman Khalif as well as a host of MPs and MCA all who praised Gor Mahia for executing the job with precision.

Owalo said that K’Ogalo was on the right upward trajectory to gain continental glory after dominating the local league sending a warning shot to Zamalek to brace themselves for a big battle with the Kenyans.

On his part, Mwendwa noted that Gor Mahia represents Kenya and the federation will give all the necessary support to the Kenya teams, Gor Mahia and Kenya Police representing the country at the CAF competitions level.
