Deputy President (DP)  Rigathi Gachagua has asked for forgiveness from his boss President William Ruto ahead of the  impeachment motion in the  National Assembly on Tuesday. October 8th, 2024.

Speaking during a church service at the National Prayer Altar in Nairobi on Sunday, October 6, 2024, Gachagua sought forgiveness from President William Ruto and Kenyans ahead of the parliamentary vote that could see him impeached.

In a heartfelt tone, Gachagua made a plea to the Head of State aiming to clear the air and, perhaps, mend fences before the looming showdown.

“I want to say to my brother, President William Ruto, if, in our zeal to work, I have wronged you, please find it in your heart to forgive me,” he said.

The deputy president, who has faced mounting political pressure, left no stone unturned as he also apologized to anyone he may have wronged. Gachagua even extended his apologies to the president on behalf of his spouse.

He apologized for any misunderstandings related to her work championing the boy child.

“If my spouse, in her duties with the boychild, has wronged you in any way, please find it in your heart to forgive her,” he pleaded.

The deputy president also hinted that his enthusiastic displays of appreciation to voters might have caused some friction.

“Probably you find that in appreciating our people and the support they gave the president and I, probably our utterances made you feel uncomfortable,” Gachagua admitted.

“We did not mean bad; we were appreciating the people who voted for us. If you feel that we rubbed you the wrong way, please find it in your heart to forgive me.”

The apology comes at a critical time, with Members of Parliament poised to decide Gachagua’s fate. The impeachment motion against him was approved by the House on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, making his future as the country’s Deputy President uncertain.
