National school Lugulu Girls’ High School, renowned for its academic excellence, is one of the schools whose results have been withheld.
The school, which achieved a mean grade of 9.328 in the 2023 KCSE exams, is now under scrutiny.
Principal Dinah Cheruiyot reassured parents and students that the matter is being addressed through official KNEC appeal channels.
“Dear Parent/Guardian, we are aware that your child has not yet received their examination results. Please rest assured that the matter is being addressed, and the results will be made available to you in due time. Further communication will follow. Thank you for your patience and understanding,” a letter from the principal read.
Among the schools whose results have been withheld are some of Kenya’s most celebrated institutions, raising concerns among students, parents, and education stakeholders.
St. Peter’s Abwao Secondary School, Migori County
St. Peter’s Abwao Secondary School in Suna West Sub-County, which emerged as the top-performing school in Nyanza during the 2023 KCSE, has also had its 2024 results withheld.
The extra-county school was excluded from Thursday’s announcement due to suspected examination irregularities.
Mama Malia Academy, Kitui County
Mama Malia Academy, a private school run by the Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation in Tseikuru, Kitui County, is another institution whose 2024 KCSE results have been withheld by KNEC.
All 92 candidates from the academy are awaiting their results as investigations continue.
Kipsingei Mixed Secondary School, Bomet County
Kipsingei Mixed Secondary School in Bomet County also had its results withheld.
Provisional results seen by K24 Digital show that all subjects were marked with a grade ‘W’, signalling irregularities.
Katilu Boys High School, Turkana County
Katilu Boys High School, which was ranked the top-performing school in Turkana County during the 2023 KCSE exams, is now under investigation.
The 2024 results for the school have been withheld by KNEC over suspected malpractice.
The way forward
The withholding of results from these schools has caused anxiety among students and parents, particularly as many of the institutions involved are celebrated for their strong academic performance.
Education stakeholders are now calling for a transparent investigation process and timely resolution of the cases to ensure fairness and accountability.
This development underscores ongoing challenges in maintaining the integrity of national examinations, even as the government continues to emphasize reforms and improvements in Kenya’s education sector.
Education Cabinet Secretary Migos Ogamba officially announced the results of the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams on Thursday, January 9, 2024.
During the announcement at Mtihani House, Ogamba revealed that while 962,512 candidates sat for the exams, the results of 2,899 students were withheld due to suspected malpractice.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) also nullified the results of 840 candidates following confirmed cases of cheating.
Investigations into the withheld results are expected to conclude within 30 days.
