The Nairobi City County Government has moved to address the issue of hawkers operating within the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
In a meeting with the city hawkers leadership at held at the Nairobi Green Park, the Business and Hustler Opportunities sector County Executive Committee member Dr. Anastasia Nyalita, discussed progress on Governor Johnson Sakaja’s directive to relocate hawking activities to designated backstreet lanes.
This move targets creating secure and clean trading spaces while maintaining the accessibility and image of the city.
The relocation of hawkers to designated backstreets lanes has been a long-standing plan of the Nairobi city county government to create a more organised and efficient city that works for all.
It not only benefits the traders by providing them with designated trading spaces but also improves the overall management of the city.
During the meeting, they discussed practical ways to make this transition smooth and beneficial for all parties involved.
This partnership between the government and the hawkers’ leadership will lead to achieving the vision of a cleaner and greener city. “Our goal is to create a win-win situation where the informal traders have secure and profitable trading spaces, and the city maintains its accessibility and image,” Governor Sakaja stated.
Dr. Nyalita emphasised the need for collaboration to make the vision of a cleaner and greener city a reality. “We urge everyone to come together and be a part of this journey of making Nairobi city cleaner and user friendly for all,” Dr. Anastasia said.
