Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja today, Saturday February 8, 2025, led in the mega clean up exercise around various locations around Nairobi as part of the on going Clean City Initiative.
In the Saturday morning exercise, the governor led the 3500 troops of Nairobi’s green army in cleaning up city roads with the exercise targeting major gateways into the city.
The clean up was conducted around Westlands, South C, Jogoo road, Outering road, Landhies road, Lusaka road and Enterprise Road cutting across a wide section of sub counties in the capital.
Sakaja called on members of the public to join the green army in cleaning up areas of their residences as well as offer encouragement to the gallant county youths in the exercise.
The clean city initiative is a program that was introduced by the Sakaja administration to help transform the state of the city and has seen the green army go on cleaning of the central business district everyday in shifts of afternoon and nightfall.
The massive clean-up has significantly contributed to the removal of illegal signage and the restoration of order in the city’s streets.
The group, which operates under the Department of Green Nairobi, has been instrumental in maintaining cleanliness across all 17 sub-counties. While they focus on estates throughout the week, Sundays are dedicated to large-scale clean-ups in the city center.
The clean-up initiative has also helped decongest the city’s walkways by relocating hawkers to designated areas and clearing anauthorized structures.
