Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi recently took to social media to sensationally claim that former cabinet secretary Amina Mohamed, who served in the FORMER President Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime campaigned against Kenya’s candidate Raila Amollo Odinga in the African Union Commission (AUC) race.

Sudi through his official social media handles alleged that a powerful figure sent Amina with one objective of spoiling things for Mr. Odinga. This is what the Kapseret Member of Parliament posted on his official Facebook handle: “Who sent Amina Mohamed to campaign against Baba?”

Sudi is amongst the leaders who call the shots around president Ruto and many wondered what he knew around the former cabinet secretary in the Uhuru government rallying behind other opponents at the expense of Mr. Odinga.

The post by the member of parliament attracted mixed reactions with sections of Kenyans endorsing his sentiments as true while others termed the post as a mere excuse after losing the African Union Commission chairman seat that Kenyans were sure of winning.

In 2017, the former cabinet secretary Amina Mohamed made an attempt to clinch the AUC seat. She was considered the frontrunner in the race but ultimately lost to the then Chad’s foreign affairs minister Moussa Faki Mahamat. The decision came after seven rounds of voting, in which Mr. Faki secured the two thirds majority that was needed to secure the prestigious seat.

It is a contest that had seen Kenya campaign strongly for Amina across Africa, with former president Uhuru Kenyatta sending special envoys to 53 countries.

After the voting, Kenya quickly conceded defeat with former statehouse spokesperson Mr. Manoah Episiu congratulating Mr. Moussa and promising to work with the new chairperson.

“We congratulate him on a race well won. We pledge to work with him to defend the pan-African agenda of integration of Africa as well as democracy.” He said.
