Rugby on The Road (RoR) and Embakasi Community and are the BingwaFest Nairobi region rugby kings and queens respectively after emerging victorious on Sunday, 2nd March at the Nairobi Polo Club Grounds.

RoR beat Homeboyz 7-0 in the men’s final as Embakasi Community got the better of Dagoretti Community, seeing them off 26-7 in the thrilling women’s final to book their slot in the national finals set for April.

In the women’s football final, Embakasi South Ladies edged out TUK Ravens by a solitary goal courtesy of Elizabeth Khisa in the 21st minute as Landi Mawe Ladies beat Kayole Starlets ‘B’ 2-0 to claim the third spot.

The much-anticipated men’s football final was abandoned in stoppage time with Leads United leading Githurai All Stars 1-0 following crowd trouble, with a decision on the matter set to be made in due time.

In the 3×3 basketball, Seniors whitewashed Chill Guys 21-8 in the men’s final as Bulldogs beat Starlets 16-13 in the ladies final to be crowned champions.

RoR, Embakasi Community, and Embakasi South Ladies pocketed KES 1 million each while the winning teams in the 3×3 basketball, Seniors and Bulldogs, went home KES 500,000 richer. The first runners-up for football and rugby were awarded KES 500,000 while the second runners-up received KES 250,000. In basketball, the teams that finished second and third took home KES 250,000 and KES 100,000 respectively.

In athletics, more than KES 5M will be up for grabs on Thursday at the Nairobi West Prison in the various track disciplines that will be on show, with both male and female athletes receiving equal prize money. Athletics action was postponed paving way for the 2nd AK Track & Field Weekend Meeting held at Thika Stadium.

Gold medalists in the lucrative 10,000m will take home KES 300,000 as the first and second runners up will pocket KES 250,000 and KES 200,000 respectively. Athletes who finish fourth and fifth will round off the prize bracket and will receive KES 100,000 and KES 75,000 in that order.

In the 5,000m category, winners will be awarded KES 250,000, second place finishers KES 150,000, third place KES 100,000, fourth place KES 50,000, and fifth place KES 30,000.

Prizes for the top five in the 100m, 4000m, 800m, and 1,500m will be the same, with gold medalists receiving KES 150,000, silver medalists KES 100,000, and bronze medalists KES 60,000. The fourth and fifth place finishers will pocket KES 30,000 and KES 20,000.

This was the last regional stop for the multi-disciplinary event which kicked off with the Western Region edition held in Mumias in August last year before moving to Kisumu in September for the Nyanza Edition, followed by the Eastern Region chapter in October at Machakos, the Rift Valley edition at Eldoret in December to wrap action in 2024, the Mountain Edition in Meru in January, and recently the Coast Edition earlier this month.

Participants will compete for exciting rewards, with the GRAND PRIZE BEING A MOTORBIKE, alongside other cash prizes of KSH 40,000, KSH 20,000, and KSH 10,000. This mega tournament will be played across five zones where the winner in every zone will pocket Ksh. 5000 and a chance to move into the next stage for an opportunity to win a Motor Cycle. The runners up in every zone will walk away with a Ksh. 3000 while number three wins Ksh. 2000. In that spirit, Kuria has taken it upon himself to bring the community together through the VIWANDANI POOL TOURNAMENT, set for 24TH MAY 2026. Kiria intones that this is not just competition, it is a statement of inclusion, youth empowerment, and practical engagement at the grassroots level. Kuria encouraged all interested participants to register with thekir local cordinators and be part of this transformative experience. “This is what meaningful leadership looks like—creating real opportunities where talent is recognized and rewarded. It is about moving beyond words and ensuring that progress can be seen and felt within the community,” Kuria said. Kuria, who is running for the position of Makadara Membernof Parliament has been active in empowering the residents of Makadara constituency using sports as a way of empowerment.
