Rains to Resume this Week, Weatherman Announces

Dry and sunny conditions are likely to end ahead of rains, the Kenya Meteorological Department has announced.

In an update on Tuesday, covering between March 4, to March 10, 2025, Met said occasional rainfall is expected later in the week.

“Occasional rainfall expected later in the week in some parts of the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, Central and South Rift Valley, the Coastal Region, the South-eastern Lowlands, and isolated areas in Northeast and Northwest,” Met said.

The weatherman said daytime temperatures are expected to be high above 30°C in most areas (cooler in Central Kenya Highlands and the Rift Valley).

The nighttime temperatures will drop below 10°C in some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, Central and South Rift Valley and around Mount Kilimanjaro.

Further, strong south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.9 m/s) are expected over parts of the Northeast and Northwest.

Kenya Met however said that mainly sunny, dry and hot weather conditions are expected to prevail over most parts of the country.

In a breakdown of the weather conditions, in the North-western (Turkana and Samburu Counties) there is likely to be sunny conditions in the mornings and afternoons, with nights of clear skies.

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley [including Nairobi County] (Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka and Nairobi Counties) the mornings and afternoons will have sunny with scattered clouds, and chance of light showers around Mt Kenya and Aberdares, respectively.

The nights will be partly cloudy.

North-eastern (Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo Counties) will experience sunny conditions in both mornings and afternoons, with clear skies at night.

South-eastern lowlands (Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado) will have sunny with scattered clouds mornings with chances of light rains over a few areas (Taita Taveta).

The afternoons will be sunny with scattered clouds and partly cloudy nights.

In the Coast region (Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties as well as coastal parts of Tana River County) the morning will likely have sunny intervals and a chance of light showers over a few areas.

The afternoons will have sunny intervals with partly cloudy nights.
