Leaders from Nairobi have expressed their support for national football team Harambee Stars ahead of their FIFA World Cup qualifier against Gabon set to be played at the Nyayo National Stadium today, Sunday March 23, 2025.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja urge fans to stand behind the team as the boys face Gabon. “I urge fans to turn up in large numbers and support our team Harambee Stars today as we play against Gabon. We had a good away 3-3 draw in our last match and now we are facing Gabon in this great city. I call on all of you to come and we cheer the team,”Governor Sakaja said.

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko also rallied behind Harambee Stars saying that Kenyans expect nothing short of victory in the world cup qualifier.

Sonko, known for his philanthropic acts is expected to visit the team to offer them a morale booster and a congratulatory message. Former Makadara MP and Kenya Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC) Rueben Ndolo noted that Kenya is a sports powerhouse known around the world and today the world will be focused on Nyayo stadium as Kenya plays against the Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.

Makadara MP George Aladwa wished Harambee Stars the best in their match even as he called on fans to turn up in large numbers and support the national team boys and desist from any acts of political intolerance.

“We want to see good football and our boys the Harambee Stars are up to task. I ask all those who have tickets to show up and support our team. There are rumours that some people have been paid to go and heckle some political leaders but I as them that this is a football match not a political rally so let them not be used to heckle leaders,” Aladwa said.

Nominated senator Karen Nyamu joined leaders in wishing Harambee Stars well as she announced her readiness to get to the stadium early and witness Kenya quiet Aubameyang, who is a former Arsenal player, which she supports in the English Premier League.
