The Nairobi City County government has adopted the national government’s health digitisation program becoming only the fifth of the devolved units to adopt the initiative.

The health digitisation program, which is focused to improve the Health Management Information System (HMIS) and establish a human resource health record system is set to digitize the provision of health services across the county.

This is aimed at streamlining healthcare workforce management, enabling seamless record sharing and enhancing service delivery.

Speaking during the launch of the initiative at City Hall, Nairobi Governor Sakaja Johnson welcomed the initiative, saying digitising health systems marks a major milestone in the county’s Taifa Care implementation, aiming to streamline healthcare services with enhanced coordination.

“Digitising our health facilities will enhance the efficiency of healthcare services, develop enhanced financial independence system, ensuring better coordination of resources, efficient medical supplies management and integrate digital healthcare solutions.” said Governor Sakaja Johnson.

He added that by embracing digital solutions, county health facilities are laying the foundation for the health system that is more transparent and timely more responsive to essential health care needs of residents, moving towards realization of universal health coverage.

State Departments of Medical Services PS Harry Kimtai, reaffirmed that Social Health Authority (SHA) is fully operational and emphasised the importance of adherence to guidelines, highlighting improvements in the benefits packages and revenue collection.

“Social Health Authority (SHA) is operational and as the Ministry of Health, we assure you maximum support to ensure the digitisation of the health facilities across the county.” said PS Kimtai.

He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming primary healthcare through funding and addressing concerns promptly.

The Senior Advisor at the Council of Economic Advisors at State House Moses Kuria, promised that the government is fast-tracking the digitisation of county’s level 5 Hospitals – Mama Lucy Kibaki and Mbagathi Hospital’s, identified among the first 5 public hospitals for efficient health care service provision.

“Nairobi is the 5th county we are digitising health facilities and among the level 5 health facilities that we are fast-tracking digitisation initiative are Mama Lucy Kibaki and Mbagathi Hospitals.” he said.

Also present during the event was Nairobi Deputy Governor Njoroge Muchiri, the Social Health Authority Acting CEO Robert Ingasira and county CECMs.
