Kariobangi North Member of the Nairobi City County Assembly (MCA) Joel Munuve is dead.
According to Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Ken Ng’ondi, the MCA was on his way to town today morning around 9.30 am when he complained about a sharp pain on his chest and developed breathing problems.
Ng’ondi while confirming the demise of the Kariobangi North MCA said that Munuve collapsed in his car and was rushed to AAR Hospital along Kiambu road where he passed on the while receiving treatment.

“Mheshimiwa Joel Munuve was a bold, vocal and enterprising leader who served the people of Kariobangi North with focus and dedication. He was hardworking, progressive and with fresh ideas that changed the lives of many people,” President Ruto said in his post on social media.
“We pray for the family, the people of Kariobangi North and the Nairobi County Assembly at this moment,”the President added.
According to reports, the outspoken politician collapsed in his car on his way to the county assembly after attending to his official duties at his ward office in Nairobi.
Munuve was rushed to AAR Hospital on Kiambu Road today morning where he was pronounced dead after a heart attack.
“He was alright this morning save for the stomach pains he had complained about since last week. He even attended the gym and was on his way to the county assembly when the incident occurred,” the source said.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja eulogized Munuve as a dedicated and passionate servant of the people who carried the hopes and aspirations of his constituents with unwaivering commitment. Sakaja noted that Munuve’s voice in the Nairobi City County Assembly was firm and always grounded in the pursuit for better service delivery and dignity.
“Hon. Munuve was a dedicated and passionate servant of the people. A leader who carried the hopes and aspirations of his constituents with unwaivering commitment. As a county, we mourn the loss of a true son of Nairobi. A community champion and a man who believed in a working Nairobi,” Sakaja said.
“His voice in the Nairobi City County Assembly was firm and always grounded in the pursuit for better service delivery and dignity for the people of Kariobangi North,” Sakaja added.
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko expressed his sympathy to the family of the deseased while mourning the vocal MCA who has been hailed as a selfless leader who was never afraid to speak his mind.
“Kariobangi North MCA Hon. Joel Munuve has passed on. My sincere condolences to his family, the entire Nairobi county assembly, and Nairobi county government fraternities. May the Almighty God give you strength, comfort, and hope during this difficult period.
RIP Mhesh,” Sonko said on his Facebook page
Embakasi ward MCA Nyantika Ricardo was among the first of Munuve’s colleagues to sent his message of condolences.
“To the family, friends and the entire Kariobangi North Ward, receive our deepest condolences following the untimely demise of MCA Hon. Joel Munuve Kimanzi. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Nyantika said
On his part, Nairobi Senator and ODM party secretary general Edwin Sifuna said he learnt of the shocking death of Munuve from Speaker Ng’ondi and expressed his sympathy to the MCA’s family and the people of Kariobangi North ward.
“I have spoken with the Speaker of the Nairobi County Assembly who has confirmed the shocking news of the death of Hon. Joel Munuve Kimanzi. In this early hours, our prayers are with his family, that God may comfort them. To the people of Kariobangi North Ward, all his friends and colleagues I say poleni sana. We shall stand together with you,” Sifuna said.
Business woman and former Nairobi Gubernatorial candidate Agnes Kagure said that Munuve will be fondly remembered for his stellar representation and close touch with his constituents.
“My thoughts and prayers are with Kariobangi residents and the Nairobi County Assembly following the sudden and shocking demise of Hon. Joel Munuve, the Kariobangi North MCA. Mhesh Munuve will be fondly remembered for his stellar representation and close touch with his constituents. May God comfort friends and family and rest his soul in eternal peace,”Kagure said.
Nairobi City County Assembly Majority whip Milimani MCA Moses Ogeto said:
“I am deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Hon Joel Munuve Kimanzi, elected member for Kariobangi North Ward. His dedication to service and leadership will be greatly missed. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, Nairobi City County Assembly, and his constituents. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
His Kileleshwa ward counterpart Robert Alai described the late Munuve as his close personal friend with whom they always walked together in the execution of their roles.
Nairobi based Media and communication strategist Kenn Okaka prayed that the people of Kariobangi North find solace saying that Munuve was a leader who dedicated his time for his people.
“I knew Hon. Munuve and I pray that his family and the people he represented find solace. He represented his people well. May he rest in peace,” Okaka said.
Many celebrated Munuve’s legacy as a fearless leader who championed accountability and community welfare. His tenure was marked by vocal participation in county matters and a staunch advocacy for the rights of the people he represented. Further details regarding funeral arrangements are expected to be released by the family and Nairobi County Assembly in due course.
The vocal MCA clinched the Kariobangi ward seat as an independent candidate during the 2022 general elections.
