Over 253 learners at Ilikiremisho Primary & Junior School in Kajiado Central, Kajiado County, will benefit from a new and equipped KES 4 million computer lab funded by Safaricom Foundation.

The laboratory, equipped with 35 computers, a printer, a projector and Safaricom internet-ready 4G connectivity, will enhance digital literacy among the students, support curriculum implementation and e-learning, and promote equal access to technology.

“Safaricom Foundation is committed to leveraging technology to transform lives. It is essential to equip our learners with digital skills to enable them to be future-ready to meet market demands driven by technology. Our Foundation also upskills teachers in digital learning at Teacher Training Colleges to ensure that they mould our learners with the requisite skills to address any existing gaps,” said Joseph Ogutu, Safaricom Foundation Chairman.

Safaricom Foundation’s investment in education in Kajiado spans across all levels, from basic to tertiary education. These projects include the construction and equipping of learning facilities in institutions such as Okejuado Secondary School, Oltepesi Primary School, and Kajiado West Technical Vocational and Training Centre, among others.

“We are really delighted to receive these computers since they will allow our students to develop computer skills. Before receiving this lab, we only taught theory lessons, but now we can use practical lessons to teach the learners, giving them an advantage in exploring new opportunities, keeping up with the current world, and preparing for future employment,” said John Kasaine, the headteacher of Illikiremisho Primary School.

Since its inception, Safaricom, through its Foundations, has invested over KES 94 million in education projects in Kajiado County.
