President Ruto nominates Murkomen Sports CS in new Cabinet appointments

Former Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has been nominated to take over as the new Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports.

In the latest cabinet nominations announced by President William Ruto at State House, Wednesday 24th July, 2024, Murkomen was named alongside other cabinet nominees as the President made nominations of ten more cabinet secretaries among them members of the opposition party Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

President William Ruto has announced his second batch of Cabinet Secretary nominees since dissolving his Cabinet on July 11 after weeks of deadly anti-government protests.

Murkomen was the minister for Transport in the old Cabinet and has been assigned the Youth docket previously held by Ababu Namwamba who was dropped from cabinet.

Nominated MP and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party chairman John Mbadi has been nominated the Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury while National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi has been nominated to the Energy and Petroleum Ministry and ODM Deputy party leader and former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho was proposed as the new cabinet secretary for Mining and Blue Economy replacing Salim Mvurya, who has been nominated to the Trade and Investments docket.

Former Tourism CS in the dissolved Cabinet, Alfred Mutua, also makes a comeback in the Labour and Social Protection docket, as ODM Deputy party leader former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has been nominated CS for Cooperatives and MSME Development Ministry.

Immediate former Attorney-General Justin Muturi  has been nominated to lead the Public Service ministry, while new comer Stella Lagat  has been nominated the new CS for Gender, Culture, Arts and Heritage.

Rebecca Miano, whom Ruto had initially reappointed as Attorney-General nominee last week before dropping her name, has been re-assigned the Tourism docket.

Murkomen comes to the sports docket as the 2024 Paris Olympic Games get underway in France and will be keen to see to it that Team Kenya stages a successful outing in quest of medals, devoid of scandals.

  4. Gender, Culture, Arts and Heritage – Stella Soi Langa’t
  5. Tourism and Wildlife – Rebecca Miano
  6. Energy and Petroleum – Opiyo Wandayi
  7. Public Service – Justin Muturi
  8. Investments, Trade and Industry – Salim Mvurya
  9. Labour and Social Protection – Alfred Mutua
  10. Mining and Blue Economy – Hassan Joho
  11. Ministry of the Interior and National Administration – Kithure Kindiki

12.Ministry of Health – Debra Mulongo Barasa

  1. Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry- Aden Duale
  2. Ministry of Roads and Transport – Davis Chirchir
  3. Ministry of Defence – Soipan Tuya
  4. Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation – Eric Muga
  5. Ministry of Education- Julius Migosi
  6. Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development – Alice Wahome
  7. Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development- Dr Andrew Karanja
  8. Ministry of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy- Dr Margaret Ndungu
  9. Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Prime Cabinet Secretary – Musalia Mudavadi
