The National Olympics Commitee of Kenya (NOCK) today, July 20,2026 marked a major milestone for Team Kenya as the Kenyan contingent to the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games was officially flagged off.
NOCK President Shadrack Maluki and NOCK First Deputy President Barnaba Korir encouraged the Kenyan team to carry to nation’s flag with pride and go out with a fighting spirit to bring back glory to the country.
Team Kenya was officially flagged off by the Principal Secretary for Sports Elijah Mwangi ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games which will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, 2026.
“I want to sincerely thank the Principal Secretary for Sports, Mr. Elijah Mwangi, for presiding over the flag-off ceremony, and my Deputy, Mr. Barnaba Korir who is the Deputy President of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya, together with all stakeholders who continue to support our athletes on this important journey,” President Maluki commented.
“As the Kenyan flag was entrusted to our athletes, they also carried with them the hopes, pride and aspirations of millions of Kenyans. I urge our gallant sportsmen and sportswomen to go out and put the pride of our country forward,” Maluki continued.
President Maluki encouraged the Kenyan Team to go ahead and compete with courage, discipline and unity in the knowledge that an entire nation stands firmly behind them with wishes of success.
“On behalf of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya, I wish Team Kenya a safe journey, strong performances and every success in Glasgow. Compete with courage, discipline and unity, knowing that an entire nation stands firmly behind you. Go make Kenya proud,” Maluki Concluded.
NOC-K 1st Vice President Barnaba Korir speaking during the flaging off ceremony urged Team Kenya’s athletes to compete with pride, discipline and unity as they prepare to depart for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Korir expressed confidence in Team Kenya ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, urging the athletes to represent the nation with pride, discipline and determination.
Korir reminded the athletes that they would be carrying the hopes of millions of Kenyans onto the international stage.
The Kenyan contingent to Glasgow comprises of 93 athletes participating across three sports, with the first delegations having already departed from Nairobi last week.
