The National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOCK) President Shadrack Maluki says Kenya’s aim is to one day, perch at the top of the medal standings in international competitions.
Speaking when the NOCK team jetted back into the country after the World Under 20 athletics championships in Eugene Oregon, where the NOCK Resource Mobilisation team made engagements in the efforts to build a foundation for Team Kenya ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA, Maluki emphasised that while Kenya is happy with Team Kenya’s performances, the aim is claim the top spot, to be number one in the world.
President Maluki said that Kenya’s impressive performance by the Under-20 athletes in Oregon is more than a medal-tally achievement, it is a glimpse into the country’s next generation of champions who need to be accorded the best support to excell.
From investing in youth and nurturing talent, Maluki said that Kenya is building towards a bigger goal which will be breaking records, winning medals and asserting itself as a sporting nation.
“Kenya has immense talent. Our responsibility is to ensure that talent is matched with the environment, expertise and resources required to compete at the highest level. LA 2028 is two years away. Our work cannot wait. We are laying the groundwork now for the Team Kenya we want to see in Los Angeles. The journey to LA 2028 starts today,” He said.
Kenya is the most successful African Country at the Olympics, with Kenyan athletes having won 124 medals in total, all from boxing and track and field events.
