The National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOCK) has distributed Team Kenya kits to the National Lawn Bowls team ahead of the 2026 Africa States Tournament (AST) that is scheduled to take place from 20th to 26th September in Lusaka, Zambia.
The kit hand over, that was overseen by the NOCK Secretary General John Ogolla, is in line with NOCK’s commitment to providing essential equipment to national teams representing the country at international events, a practice that has been cemented by the current administration led by the NOCK President Shadrack Maluki.
The NOCK President Shadrack Maluki has in the past emphasised that the NOCK is duty bound to support every athlete and team representing the country at international competitions.
According to President Maluki, athletes and teams preparing for international competitions are required to write to the NOCK expressing their requirements for kitting, and NOCK has the duty, in the development of sports, to kit the teams and provide all available technical and logistical support for the national teams.
President Maluki has expressed that the NOCK provides kits to athletes through a contract between NOCK and NIKE assuring Kenya athletes and federations teams affiliated with NOCK are only supposed to officially write to NOCK and will be swiftly facilitated without bias.
“NOCK has a duty to facilitate Kenyan athletes and we have a contract with Nike to supply all our athletes with kits at all international competitions. NOCK is a responsible body fully dedicated to support athletes perform to their highest achievements,” Maluki said.
Team Kenya has assembled a 14-member lawn bowls delegation comprising 10 players, two reserves and two team managers, who will represent the country at the six-day continental tournament.
Kenya will face Uganda, Ghana and Nigeria, with the AST Championships providing a crucial platform for the team to pursue qualification for the 2027 World Bowls Championships, scheduled to be held at Victoria Park in Royal Leamington Spa, England.
The team will be looking to build on its preparations and deliver a strong performance as it competes against some of Africa’s leading lawn bowls nations.
