When Nick Mwendwa was elected FKF President, the landscape of women’s football in Kenya was uncertain, with no organized leagues or competitions. Coaches like Jackline Juma and Mildred Cheche were nearing the end of their playing careers, while Doreen Nabwire, the first Kenyan woman to play professionally abroad, was also close to retirement. Beldine Odemba had just transitioned from an administrative role at MYSA and was considering a career in coaching. Except for Doreen, the rest, even though played for the national team, had no formal coaching training.

Today, the results of FKF’s commitment to women’s football are evident:

Mildred Cheche, now a CAF B license holder, has led the Junior Starlets to Kenya’s first-ever FIFA World Cup qualification. As an FKF and CAF Coach Educator, she’s shaping the future of Kenyan coaching.
Jackline Juma, a CAF A license coach who excelled in her training, is now the head coach of the U15 Women’s National Team and the first woman to coach in the FKF Premier League at FC Talanta. Her journey from CAF D to A has been nothing short of inspiring. She is also a certified FKF and CAF Coach Educator.

Beldine Odemba, now the head coach of the Senior Women’s National Team, has guided the Harambee Starlets and led Kenya Police Bullets to victory in their debut season of the 2023/24 FKF Women’s Premier League. Beldine is also an FKF and CAF Coach Educator.

Doreen Nabwire, a UEFA B and CAF B license holder, now heads Leagues and Competitions at FKF, where she’s been instrumental in structuring women’s leagues and grassroots programs.

This remarkable journey is a testament to how FKF, under Nick Mwendwa’s leadership, is transforming lives and shaping the future of football in Kenya.
