Former Nairobi Governor Dr. Evans Kidero believes performance will secure President William Ruto a second term in office come 2027 elections.

Kidero, the first Nairobi City County governor says President Ruto is poised to comfortably win his second term in the highest office on the land based to his development track record that is already evident with just two years as President.

According to Dr. Kidero, President Ruto has been able to steer the economy of the country from rock bottom when he took the realms of power in 2022 and with just under three years to the next general elections, Ruto’s first two years in office speak volumes of the direction he intends to take the country in socioeconomic development making it clear that Kenya will grow by leaps and bounds making it easy for the President to win the next election to the house on the hill.

Dr. Kidero cited agricultural development as the back born of the country’s economic revamp and noted that the current upward trajectory will give Ruto an easy ride to his second term.

“President William Ruto will definitely win his second term in 2027. The Kenya Kwanza administration has prioritized agriculture and improved productivity by taking deliberate measures like giving the fertilizer subsidy to our farmers. This every Kenyan farmer has felt the impact as productivity has improved. For the first time, Kenya has not imported maize or other agricultural produce because with subsidized fertilizer, our farmers have been able to produce more,” Kidero said.

Dr. Kidero, noted that under the Ruto administration, Kenya’s economy has grown and with two more years, every Kenyan will feel the positive impact.

He added that Ruto is an experienced politician and an astute leader who knows how to balance both the intrigues of political turbulence and development of the county. Kidero called on youthful social media users to exercise responsibility in their use of the social space noting that Kenya has a democratic space for critics of the government but this critic should be constructive and objective.

“I call upon our youth to use the social media in a responsible manner. This is a tool that has potential to create jobs for our youths so instead of mocking leaders online, they should use the social media as a commercial tool. You can monetize content creation instead of misusing the freedom of expression on the social space,” Kidero advised.

Dr. Kidero was in November 2024 appointed by Ruto to chair the Kenya National Trading Corporation (KNTC). In a gazette notice dated Friday, November 15, President Ruto designated Kidero to serve in his new for a period of three years.

Kidero made  a comeback in Ruto’s government after a recent nomination as a Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Ministry of Trade failed to sail through.

Kidero also lauded President Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for uniting in the interest of the country. The former governor of Nairobi commended the two leaders for their patriotism.

“I deeply appreciate the statesmanship demonstrated by both President Ruto and Raila Odinga. They chose to prioritise the country’s welfare over personal and political interests. This spirit of unity is what Kenya needs to move forward,” he said.

He credited Ruto’s administration for implementing sound economic policies that have reduced the cost of living, particularly through the subsidised fertilizer program.

“Under President Ruto’s leadership, the cost of fertiliser has dropped from Sh7,500 to Sh2,500 per bag. This has significantly boosted agricultural productivity, increased food supply, and ensured food security across the country,” Kidero noted.

Highlighting the progress made since Ruto took office in September 2022, Kidero pointed out that the cost of a 2-kilogramme packet of maize flour has dropped from over Sh200, while fuel prices have stabilised from Sh230 per litre.

He emphasised that these measures reflect Ruto’s commitment to fulfilling his campaign promise of reducing the cost of living.
