Nairobi, Kenya – January 13, 2025— The Chairman of the Kenya National Trading Corporation (KNTC), Dr. Evans Kidero, today held a strategic meeting with the Ukrainian Ambassador to Kenya, His Excellency Andrii Pravednyk, at the Ukrainian Embassy in Nairobi.
Dr. Kidero, who was appointed by President William Ruto to chair the KNTC last November paid the visit to the Ukrainian ambassador to hold discussions centered on potential areas of collaboration aimed at strengthening trade and economic ties between Kenya and Ukraine.
The meeting explored key opportunities for partnerships in sectors such as agriculture, technology, manufacturing, and infrastructure development. Dr. Kidero highlighted KNTC’s role in promoting trade, particularly in ensuring the availability of essential commodities and fostering regional and international trade partnerships.
Dr. Kidero noted the importance of such engagements in aligning with Kenya’s Vision 2030 development agenda, particularly in enhancing industrialization and promoting sustainable economic growth. Both parties agreed to establish working groups to identify specific projects and formalize agreements in the coming months.
Ambassador Pravednyk emphasized Ukraine’s advanced agricultural technology and expertise, which could play a significant role in bolstering Kenya’s agricultural value chain. The potential export of Ukrainian machinery and agricultural inputs, as well as knowledge exchange in grain storage and food security strategies, was also discussed.
The two leaders expressed mutual interest in diversifying trade between the two nations. While Ukraine is renowned for its grain and heavy machinery exports, Kenya could provide opportunities for Ukrainian businesses in horticulture, tea, coffee, and innovative start-ups.
This meeting marks a significant step in strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between Kenya and Ukraine. It is expected to pave the way for greater trade volumes, technology transfer, and mutual investments in the near future.
Further announcements on specific areas of cooperation and projects are anticipated following subsequent engagements between KNTC and Ukrainian stakeholders.
