The Kenya Pipeline Volleyball team players set to take part in the third edition of the CAVB Africa Zone V Club Championships in Kampala, Uganda have been flagged off at KPC headquarters.
The team comprises two setters, two opposites, four middle blockers, four left attackers and two liberos.
Kenya Pipeline are the current defending champions and the sole Kenyan team participating in the regional tournament that will be held at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium and Old Kampala Sports Arena from 26th February to 4th March 2025.
The tournament organizing committee has confirmed over 20 teams will battle it out for the coveted title among them Armée Patriotique Rwandaise, Rwanda National Police, Tanzania Prisons Services, Sport-S, KCCA, Vision Volleyball Camp, Ndejje University Elites and KCB-Nkumba.
Speaking while flagging off the team, KPC Managing Director Mr Joe Sang expressed confidence in the team’s preparations and prospects stating, “KPC volleyball team is the only Kenyan team taking part in this year’s CAVB Africa Zone V championship. This is testament to the resilience, skill, and dedication that the team has consistently demonstrated. We are confident they will represent the Company and the nation with distinction in Kampala and bring the title home for the second time. We extend our full support and best wishes as they depart for Uganda.”
Sang also encouraged the spirit of teamwork, support, trust and mental grit among the players.
Head Coach Geoffrey Omondi emphasized the team’s readiness saying, “Our preparations for the last couple of weeks have been intensive and focused. The players are in high spirits and eager to showcase their talent on this significant platform. Our aim is to bring the trophy back home.”
The Zone V comprises a number of clubs drawn from twelve African countries. The countries include Kenya, Burundi, Egypt, South Sudan, Sudan, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea, Somalia, Rwanda, Tanzania and hosts Uganda.
