Starehe Member of Parliament Amos Mwago has forged a partnership with the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to bolster the development of football coaching within the constituency. This initiative, sponsored by the Starehe Constituency National Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF) under Mwago’s stewardship, has seen the successful culmination of a CAF D coaching training course at Jamhuri High School, facilitated by esteemed coaches Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno and Leonard Saleh.

The program, aimed at equipping former players and sports teachers from Starehe with the necessary technical expertise to become qualified coaches, has garnered praise for its impact on talent development and job creation within the football ecosystem.

Mwago’s advocacy for enhancing coaching standards extends beyond the CAF D level. He has expressed a desire to sponsor and host a CAF C coaching course for qualified coaches, former players, and sports teachers from his constituency, underscoring his commitment to fostering a cadre of highly skilled football mentors.

In his statement, Mwago commended FKF for its dedication to capacity-building among coaches, noting that well-equipped instructors are pivotal in nurturing exceptional players. He further emphasized the potential of sports, particularly football, as a catalyst for youth employment across various disciplines within the industry.

The collaborative efforts between Mwago and FKF have been lauded by constituents and football enthusiasts alike. Hezron Otieno, a football supporter, praised Mwago’s comprehensive approach to supporting sports in Starehe, while Joseph Gwada expressed appreciation for the MP’s commitment to sports development and hinted at potential future endeavors in boxing. The Starehe constituency NGCDF Chairman Mr. Daudi Obonyo commended FKF for the good job in regards to capacity-building of coaches and referees, which has greatly impacted the growth of the game in Kenya. Mr. Obonyo confirmed that his boss is ready to support more initiatives aimed at creating opportunities for the locals and will continue to partner with institutions like FKF to support the growth of Talent.

The graduation of 30 football coaches through the CAF D course marks a significant milestone in the Starehe constituency’s sporting landscape, showcasing the tangible outcomes of Mwago’s vision and the collaborative synergy between political leadership and sports institutions.

Mwago’s proactive engagement with FKF underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in driving positive change and empowering communities through sports. This strategic alliance not only enriches coaching standards but also cultivates a culture of excellence and opportunity for aspiring athletes and sports professionals in Starehe and beyond.

As the legacy of this partnership continues to unfold, Mwago’s leadership exemplifies a dynamic approach to leveraging sports as a vehicle for socio-economic development, earning him recognition as a proactive and results-oriented Member of Parliament dedicated to serving his constituents’ diverse needs.
