Listed agribusiness firm Kakuzi Plc (NSE: KUKZ) has stepped up its corporate digital literacy enhancement programme for schools in Murang’a County.

As part of an initiative to equip Primary school students with digital skills and enable them compete on an equal footing nationally and beyond, Kakuzi has donated 18 computers and 3 printers to three rural based public primary schools within the county.

The donation, aims to improve access to digital information and streamline administrative processes for the schools.

The beneficiary schools, Kinyangi Primary, Kitito Primary, and Kakuzi Primary, each received six computers and a printer. The schools requested these resources to address their challenges in accessing information and printing documents.

“Digital skills and general access to computer systems in the school environment is now an imperative. The lack of computer systems hampers schools such as ours from achieving their full potential. We are glad that Kakuzi has responded positively to our request,” said Madam Immaculate Keige Kitito, Primary School Headteacher, adding, “Besides basic training in computer operations, previously, we had to travel to Thika Town to access our systems and print essential documents. This led to frequent disruptions in our operations. In some instances, exams had to be postponed due to a shortage of printed past papers.”

The Kakuzi donation was officially handed over in a ceremony attended by Kakuzi management and key community leaders, including the Area Chief, Assistant Chief, and TSC representative for Ithanga, Kakuzi Sub-County.

“Kakuzi PLC is committed to supporting education and empowering our local communities. We hope to alleviate these schools’ challenges and enhance the students’ learning experience by providing these computers and printers. Our goal is to introduce them to digital skills early in life so they’re exposed to global opportunities,” said Chris Flowers Kakuzi PLC Managing Director.

Earlier this year, Kakuzi also spearheaded the effort to renovate all three schools. The renovation started last year as part of Kakuzi’s commitment to realizing Sustainable Development Goal 4—Quality Education and seeing the school’s environment improve immensely, thus boosting the quality of education at the institutions.
