Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Referees Committee Chairman Caleb Amwayi is facing possible arrest over allegations of irregular withdrawals amounting to Ksh. 209,000 from the FKF Bungoma Branch bank account.

According to records, Amwayi—who also serves as the Western region FKF National Executive Committee (NEC) member—allegedly withdrew the funds soon after he was elected NEC representative, without authorization from the new branch officials.

Amwayi previously held the position of FKF Bungoma Branch Secretary before securing the NEC seat under the Hussein Mohammed-led “Team Fresh” in the last FKF elections.

Further allegations have emerged regarding his tenure as head of the FKF Referees Committee, where he is accused of reinstating referees previously suspended for incompetence and alleged involvement in match manipulation. Critics argue that this move has contributed to concerns over match-fixing within local football competitions.

Additionally, Amwayi has faced past accusations—including claims of misconduct involving young female referees—though no concrete evidence has been presented to substantiate these allegations.

The current FKF Bungoma Branch Secretary, Ezekiel Murani, through Wanyonyi, Rono & Associates law firm, has formally demanded that Amwayi convene an urgent meeting to clarify the withdrawals.

Banking records indicate that Amwayi allegedly withdrew over Ksh. 209,000 between October 16, 2024—just before the FKF elections—and January 21, 2025, from the FKF Bungoma Branch Family Bank account.

As pressure mounts, football stakeholders are calling for accountability and transparency in FKF’s financial dealings.
