Former Makadara Member of Parliament and Kenya Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC) chairman Reuben Ndolo has hailed the Kenya National Football team Harambee Stars after a sterling performance against Gabon in a 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier played at Nyayo National Stadium today.
Kenya came from two goals down to settle in a 1-2 loss against a Gabon side led by former English Premier League side Arsenal star Pierre Emerick-Aubeyang who scored both goals for the central African side at a packed Nyayo stadium.
Ndolo praised the resilience displayed by the Kenyan team noting that the new Harambee Stars coach, South African Benny McCarthy is a passionate about sports and will turn tides for the Kenyan National team.
“Against Guinea away, Kenya got a 3-3 draw and today, we have lost slimly against a very strong side that was at the world cup in Qatar in 2022. We are heading to the right direction,”Ndolo said.
“As president of the Kenya Professional Boxing Commission, I have been to South Africa and McCarthy has always come over for the bouts to support our boxers. He is a true sports man and with him at the helm of Harambee t, I have no doubt that our national team is in the right pair of hands,” Ndolo added.
Kenya went down 1-2 against Gabon in a world cup qualifier that was totally sold out a day before the match day marking a new Kenyan history.
At the same time, Ndolo thanked the thousands of fans who thronged Nyayo stadium to cheer on Harambee Stars. “This is a historical day. Kenyans bought all available tickets and filled the stadium. It is a very great sportsmanship gesture,” Ndolo said.
“The stadium attendance I have seen today is very commendable and I am happy that Kenyans came out and supported Harambee Stars we will keep supporting our national team,” Ndolo added.
Earlier, Ndolo had urged the crowds to exercise sportsmanship and avoid being used by politicians to heckle other leaders attending the match, a clarion call that was well heeded.
