Candidates aligned with the 2022 Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Embakasi North parliamentary candidate Jane Muringi claimed victory at the ODM Embakasi North elections that were held on Wednesday April 9, 2025.

The team’s lineup had earlier grabbed a majority of seats in the ward polls from which the ward delegates went on to vote for the constituency officials setting the stage for a landslide victory and usher in a fresh and vibrant leadership for the party at the constituency level.

In the constituency elections, Elias Wanyonyi, with the backing of majority of the newly elected ward officials cruised to victory as Esau Marende was elected the secretary while Augustine ‘Ababu’ Osii was voted in as the ODM Embakasi North organising secretary.

Mary Onyango was elected the women league chairperson position with Hellen Omedo winning in the secretary race. The organizing secretary position in the women league went to Zahra Ahmed.

In the youth league elections, Dickens Onywera was elected chairman while Regina Wanjiku was voted in as the youth league secretary with the organizing secretary position going to Brian Onyango. In the disability league, George Onyango was voted the chairman and will work with Faridah Mueni as secretary and the organizing secretary Panel Okoth.

Speaking to Kenya Online News, Osii Ababu lauded the delegates who exercised their democratic rights in conducting a free fair and credible election.

He exuded confidence that the team supported by Muringi, a long term ODM leader will propel the interests of party members at the constituency and lay a firm foundation for victory ahead of the next general elections in 2027.

“The election was very credible, free and fair. We were open to using the que system of voting but we had consensus and a delegates system was used where we had a total of 90 delegates. 30 for the chairman’s position, 30 for the women league and 30 for the youth league. I am confident this team is the winning team and in 2027, we shall emerge the winners,” Ababu said.

In the 2022 elections, Muringi lost the MP contest by a thin margin in what was a three horse race between the current MP James Gakuya and a late entrant Harrison Wangoro who is seen as the man who split the Azimio La Umoja votes in Embakasi North handing Gakuya of UDA a slight margin of advantage.
