The Kenya Meteorological Department has said rainfall will continue in many parts of the country this week.
In its weather outlook for April 22 to 28, the department also warned of isolated heavy rainfall in specific regions.
“Heavy rainfall events are expected over some parts of the Central Highlands (including Nairobi), Western Kenya, Lake Victoria Basin, Southeastern Lowlands, Central and South Rift Valley, and North-eastern Kenya,” the statement read.
According to the department, daytime temperatures are expected to remain high in some areas.
The department said average maximum temperatures of more than 30°C will be experienced in the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya, and isolated areas in Western Kenya.
“Average night-time (minimum) temperatures will be less than 10°C in some parts of the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and around Mt. Kilimanjaro,” the statement added.
On its X account, Kenya Met also gave a weather review for past dates (April 14- 20).
According to the review, rainfall was recorded across many parts of the country.
“Heavy downpours (50 mm+ in 24hrs) were reported in: Makueni, Machakos, Murang’a, Embu, Meru, Isiolo, Kericho, Homa Bay, Nyandarua, Bungoma, Nairobi, and Migori,” Met said.
According to Met, the previous week (April 7–13), rainfall amounts increased in several areas—especially over the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands, North-eastern and North-western Kenya.
“Stay weather-aware,” the department stated.
On April 18, the department announced that some parts of the Nairobi Metropolis would experience heavy rains in the next 24 hours.
In a statement, the weather department said that isolated storms may also occur in the next 24 hours.
“Some parts of the Nairobi Metropolis may experience HEAVY (>20mm) to VERY HEAVY (>50mm) rainfall within 24 hours. Isolated storms may also occur—especially during the afternoon, evening, and morning hours,” Met said.
The weatherman further announced that rainfall is expected to persist over several parts of the country in the next seven days.
