Benni McCarthy finally delivered his first win as the Kenya national football team head coach as Harambee Stars overcame valiant Chad 2-1 at the Marrakech Annex in Morocco on Tuesday, June 10th, 2025.
And so after days of question marks over McCarthy’s capacity to get wins, Kenya closed out their twin international friendlies with a morale-boosting routine victory, which will come in handy as the side, mostly consisting of locally based players, prepare for the upcoming African Nations Championships (CHAN) in August.
McCarthy made nine changes to his side, with the same nation on Saturday, 7 June that ended to a barren draw and got the right reward as they gave him his first victory in his new role after three previous attempts.
First on target was red-hot striker Emmanuel Osoro, who benefited from a fine team move to poke in Ben Stanley’s low cross inside the box after 18 minutes.
The FC Talanta forward turned provider later on, as he collected a fine pass from Austin Odhiambo on the left to tee up David Sakwa for the second.
Chad, ranked 66 places below Kenya, did their best to trouble Harambee Stars in a close second half, and grabbed a goal back when Ali Mahamat nodded past Farouk Shikhalo, but that ultimately proved to be a consolation.
