Kitutu Chache South Member of Parliament Anthony Kibagendi had it rough as he was physically assaulted by his Kitutu Chache North counterpart Japheth Nyakundi following an altercation over political differences during a funeral in Sensi Ward, Kisii County.

The funeral of Salome Ongwae, stepmother to former Kisii Governor James Ongwae, was the gallery as the two MPs in rival political camps went physical on stage.

Trouble started when Kibagendi, who had been given the microphone to speak, verbally attacked President William Ruto, accusing him of being a liar.

“We were hoodwinked as a community and as a nation to elect a President who is a liar,” Kibagendi said as Nyakundi intercepted and grabbed the mic from him.

Nyakundi, the area MP, then attempted to chase Kibagendi from the dais, sparking the altercation and subsequent fight.

Kibagendi, who was erstwhile a pauper before landing a job at the Ruto’s office when the President was serving as deputy president made his fortunes from Ruto’s office enabling him to run for his parliamentary seat on Ruto’s party UDA in 2022.

Kibagendi has painted a grim picture of his character as a person who does not appreciate, neither has any loyalty. Before joining Ruto, Kibagendi tried to run for parliament while in ODM and flopped seeking help from Ruto. It is said that he acted as a mole within UDA and after leaking the party secrets outside, he has now jumped from the ship that gave him a life line and gone public castigating Ruto, who is the hand that fed him.
