The National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOCK) President Shadrack Maluki has moved ahead to address the online buzz that sorrounded Kenyan Fencing athlete Alexandra Ndolo over a kitting uproar.

Addressing the matter, President Maluki emphasised that the NOCK is duty bound to support every athlete representing the country at international competitions and not those appearing at competitions in their personal capacity.

According to President Maluki, athletes preparing for international competitions are required to write to the NOCK expressing their requirements for kitting, a process which Ndolo did not follow.

In an online uproar, reports alleged that Kenyan Fencer Alexandra Ndolo asked the National Olympic Committee for an official Kenyan tracksuit for her Coach as he cannot stand by the sidelines during official competitions if not in an official Kenyan tracksuit.

It continues that the fencer had to wait for half a year before an unmarked kit was shipped to Europe.

Maluki noted that the NOCK provides kits to athletes through a contract between NOCK and NIKE and that, had Ndolo officially written to NOCK, she would have been swiftly facilitated.

“NOCK has a duty to facilitate Kenyan athletes and we have a contract with Nike to supply all our athketes with kits at all international competitions. Had Ndolo written to us, we would have gladly kitted her,” Maluki said.

“We are proud of Ndolo as Kenya’s first fencer to appear at the Olympics. We love her and support her career. It would have been very important if she followed due process and write to us for facilitation instead of creating an online buzz. NOCK is a responsible body fully dedicated to support athletes perform to their highest achievements,” Maluki added.

Alexandra Ndolo, who was in competition at the African Championships in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire and World Championships in Hong Kong ended her regular season with a commendable perfomance finishing 7th out of 310 women at the Worldcup in Paris and is now ranked 10th in the World.
