GCK Party Leader Hillary Alila condemns Ruto’s target on migrant Burundians

The Green Congress of Kenya (GCK) Party Leader Hillary Alila has strongly condemned the recent pronouncements of President William Ruto targeting Burundi nationals living and operating small scale busineses in Kenya.

 

Alila castigated the President’s remarks, terming them as reckless, irresponsible and populist.

 

The GCK leader condemned the pronouncements notimg that ot was dangerous rhetoric from the highest office in the land. At the same time, Alila slammed the Kenyans who allegedly perpetrated violence against hawkers and other small scale traders from Burundi in various parts of Nairobi noting that they too cannot be held blameless.

 

“Kenya hosts the highest number of diaspora workers in the region. When we mistreat others here, our own people abroad face repercussions?” Alila posed.

 

Reiteriating that GCK stands for ecological wisdom, social justice, participatory democracy, non-violence, sustainability, and respect for diversity, Alila insisted that Kenya must uphold the Constitution and Pan-African values.

 

In his lost of demands to the Kenyan government, Alila outlined that GCK demands the immediate protection of all migrants, arrest and prosecution of perpetrators of violonce on the foreigners, a Presidential retraction and apology following the reckless decree and a call for dialogue aimed at unity.

 

The Kenyan government has today announced 90-day window for foreigners doing business in the country to regularise their status, noting thay licensing rules will be strictly enforced thereafter.
