The Nairobi City County Governor H.E Johnson Sakaja emphasized on the importance to focus on service delivery as he ushered in six newly appointed County Chief Officers in Nairobi.
Governor Sakaja who met the six new Chief Officers at City Hall urged them to work closely with the County Executive Committee Members and other officers in their respective departments with focus on service delivery to Nairobians.
Sakaja said that the six new County Chief Officers (CCOs) who were vetted and approved by the County Assembly of Nairobi County were appointed based on merit and it is now down to the business of delivering on his manifesto to the people of Nairobi. Present during the meeting were Deputy Governor Njoroge Muchiri, Acting County Secretary Patrick Analo, and various CEC members.
The county boss appointed six chief officers to lead critical sectors in the county and the CCOs were taken through scrutiny by the county assembly prior to their approval.
Nairobi county government now has new chief officers in the departments of Trade and Markets, Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resources, Wellness, Nutrition, and School Feeding, Digital Economy and Startups, Boroughs and Subcounty Administration, and Economic Affairs.
Gladwell Cheruiyot was appointed as the new CCO for Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resources, Amina Mohammed will be the COO for Wellness, Nutrition, and School Feeding heading the County’s key flagship program Dishi Na County, David Oyolo has been appointed to head the department of Digital Economy and Startups while Bernard Muia is the new chief officer in charge of the department of Boroughs and Subcounty Administration.
Former State House Director of Political Affairs and former Kiambu county CEC member in charge of youth affairs, sports, and communications Machel Waikenda has been appointed as the new chief officer for Economic Affairs in Nairobi while Jane Wangui has been appointed chief officer in charge of Markets and Trade department.
Governor Sakaja emphasized the need for the CCOs to understand his administration and his election manifesto and how to conduct themselves for familiarization purposes.
“I take this opportunity to welcome you and to let you familiarize yourself with our manifesto and pressing tasks ahead, and also the need to focus on service delivery in line with our manifesto,” Sakaja said.
Sakaja said that his administration is determined to deliver all pledges given to residents and called on the new CCOs to inject new energy into the already moving train.
Amina Mohammed has her work cut out as Dishi na County expansion continues with the enrollment of almost 20,000 more learners from 12 public schools school to the feeding programme last week.
This brings the total number of learners taking hot meals daily in Nairobi to 200,000. The schools covered are St. Patrick, Bahati, Martin Luther, Star of Hope, and Dr. Krapf Primary Schools in Makadara Sub-County, Kimathi and Dr. Livingstone Primary Schools in Kamukunji Sub County and Gituamba, Athi, Unity, Manyatta and Drumvale Primary Schools in Kasarani Sub County.
Upon completion of the ongoing 7 Central Kitchens culminating in roll out of the 3rd Phase next term, 310,000 learners will benefit from Dishi na County programme in Nairobi.
