National 12 times champions Tusker FC consolidated their position at the summit of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF PL) by disposing the defending champions Gor Mahia at the weekend.

Tusker finally broke their long-standing jinx against Gor Mahia, securing a dramatic 2-1 victory in a thrilling FKF Premier League encounter on Sunday afternoon at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

Ryan Ogam, delivered a sensational performance, netting twice, including a stoppage-time winner, to hand the Brewers a crucial victory to open a six point lead at the summit and their first win against Kogallo since April 2022.

The 2025 new year league leaders Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) remained in second spot after being held to a disappointing 1-1 draw by bottom placed Nairobi City Stars.

Incoming 2005 FKF Cup champions Nairobi City Stars head coach Salim Babu watched from the stands as the club frustrated title hopefuls KCB to a 1-1 draw at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.

Babu is set to formally take over at City Stars in the week after agreeing terms with the management.

The Bankers needed nothing short of maximum points to scale to the summit pending the outcome of the match pitting Tusker against record champions, Gor Mahia.

In Murang’a, Alfred Leku’s 64th-minute goal gave Kenya Police a vital 1-0 win over Murang’a Seal at St. Sebastian Park.

The victory keeps Police within three points of league leaders Tusker, while Murang’a Seal remains in 12th place on the 18-team log with 22 points.

FC Talanta turned on the style as they halted their three-game losing streak by thumping AFC Leopards 2-4 in an FKF Premier League clash staged at the Dandora Stadium on Saturday 18 January.

The victory marked Talanta’s maiden Premier League win over Ingwe in their seventh attempt since garnering promotion to the top flight back in the 2021/2022 season.

The victory lifts Talanta to 15th and off the relegation zone momentarily with Posta Rangers and Nairobi City Stars who are below them set to play on Sunday.

AFC Leopards’ quest to quench their 27-year title drought suffered a massive blow as they are now 11 points below table toppers Tusker FC

Sofapaka began life without coach Robert Matano and inflicted further misery to Posta Rangers’ woes in the league with a 2-1 victory at Dandora Stadium.

This was the first time the 2009 league winners played a competitive match since the festive season break and the departure of Matano, who joined Tanzanian Premier League side Fountain Gate FC.

The win moves Sofapaka to fifth place on the FKF-PL standings with 24 points from 16 matches.

Posta Rangers, on the other hand, remain rooted at the bottom with 14 points from 17 games. Rangers have now gone nine consecutive league matches without a win.

Despite suspending their head coach George Midenyo in the build-up to the second game of the year, FKF PL debutants Mara Sugar FC registered a comfortable win on Saturday to return to winning ways.

Mara made maximum use of their home advantage to thrash the 2008 Premier League champions Mathare United 3-0 at the Awendo Green Stadium, marking their first win of the year.

What dominated less than 72 hours before the fixture was the decision by the management to suspend coach George Midenyo, who had been in charge from the start of the campaign.

The CAF A license holder was suspended in the wake of the poor run that had seen the club register a single win in eight matches.

The three points earned Mara their sixth win of the season and lifted the club to the top half of the log with 22 points, pending the outcome of the Sunday matches.

Mathare, who have lost seven matches, remain ranked 13th with 20 points, just five above the dreaded red zone.
